  • Thyroid and Parathyroid Disease     
    • Thyroid Nodules – Approximately 5% of nodules are cancerous of the 5% of the population that have a thyroid nodule that is visible or able to be felt on examination.
    • Graves disease – Failure of medical treatment is an indication for surgery (total thyroidectomy) which can be curative.
    • Thyroid Cancer – Treatment is the removal of the whole thyroid gland or sometimes removal of a lesser portion of the gland
    • Goitre – Large thyroids may cause compressive symptoms such as trouble breathing or swallowing.
    • Parathyroid disease – Symptoms are often subtle, but common symptoms include kidney stones, mental confusion and weak bones.
